Another early start – no time for breakfast – we’re off to the river Kwai. The museum here was poorly managed and laid out, so many artefacts just bundled together with little information about them. It was historic, sad and made little mention of the POW’s who died building the bridge. There’s not much left of the original bridge, but another one has been built just along the river from the original. We took a walk across it before heading for the train station. Our journey took us along what is known as the Death Railway. A scary and exhilarating ride as we went so close to the rock face that you could touch it.
We had lunch at a riverside cafe before being rafted down the river to our next stop, cooling our feet in the water as we went.
Our final stop was elephant riding. It was fantastic I have never experienced something quite so humbling, being so close to these gentle giants. We were taken around the compound on a female elephant, then once back, fed and watered her.
